Wednesday 2-18-09: A tour of peaks

After clinic, we went on a tour with other students to see some of the peaks around Quito.

The first stop was La Cima de la Libertad, the site of the Battle on Pichincha, led by Mariscal Anotonio José de Sucre on May 24, 1822. It was the decisive battle in the struggle for independence from Spain.

The students in our group: Britton, me, Ben, Brittany, Krystal, KT, Emily, and Kristen.

Next we went up to La Virgen de Quito with her crown of stars, eagles wings and a chained dragon atop the world. This site also overlooks the whole city.

Last, we went to the Basílica del Voto Nacional a HUGE and impressive gothic style church with turtle and iguanas protruding from the churches side rather than the traditional gargoyles.
