Old counter tops find a new home

You know how we love to recycle...

This weekend we cut up our old counter tops (using the new power- saw, drill, etc. set that my parents gave us for Christmas) and installed them in our pantry under the stairs as shelves. It was fun to recycle materials and the shelves look nice and are very sturdy! This picture makes them look really small, but they are 38 inches wide and 15 inches deep, supports on both sides with an L bracket in the middle. Dad would be proud. Britton was definitely the leader on this project and I was his helper/sidekick/muse.

Last Friday after work, Britton and I went over to the labor and delivery floor to borrow an exam room with a 3D ultrasound. The baby still looks very healthy with a normal heartbeat but it turns out that 15 weekers look a little scary in 3D because they haven't added much body fat yet. Let's just say that those pictures are not keepers. The tech came in to give her opinion and she was very confident that it's a healthy boy! I have my next official ultrasound in 3 weeks so I'll finally have confirmation of the sex from my own ob/gyn. Meanwhile, we have already started to talk about the baby using "he" and "him" and "our son!" Wow!

Granite!

Last weekend granite counter tops replaced our old Formica tops and added a counter over the new cabinets that Britton installed. The new cabinets create a peninsula with plenty of drawers (which we will need for bibs, bottles, sippy cups, etc.!). It also gives us two extra spots for seating. The counters look great and we are very excited!

Our neighbor came over on Tuesday night to help Britton reinstall the plumbing for the sink and garbage disposal. Yay! The kitchen project is "complete"!...for now.

2nd trimester, here we come!

Yesterday, Britton and I went to the 13 week check up, ultrasound, and end-of-the-first-trimester celebration!

I am feeling much better. Nausea is now rare and my energy level is about 85% of my normal level. I'm jogging 3x/wk, walking everyday and doing a little yoga and toning when I can. I think the activity really helps to increase my energy level and keep me and the baby healthy and happy.

On ultrasound, the baby is looking adorable already, or is that my biased opinion setting in so soon? We saw waves and flips and kicks and a very healthy spine. All 13 week checks looked great! They say that you can't be sure of the sex at 13 weeks but on this cross-sectional...what do you think? I see two thighs and a little rump at the bottom and...wait, what is that candle doing in my uterus!!!.. and where did the baby get matches to light it?!!!
