19 week check-up

On Tuesday, Britton and I went to our 19 week check up. The doctor finally confirmed that we are having a healthy baby boy! He was as cute as can be on the ultrasound video sucking away on his little thumb! His is currently in the breech position (feet down) which is fine this early in the pregnancy, except for when he kicks my bladder! Here he is with his little hand up to his mouth. His spinal vertebrae and ribs are all lit up in white and that black spot in between is his heart.

As for my job, I found out today that I will not be moved to the off-site clinic. I will stay where I am for at least 2 months while applying for the full time position that I'm currently filling. This decision comes with a sacrifice: working 6 days a week, every other week for the next 2 months to keep multiple clinic sites happy. It's only 2 months though, and this is the best time for me to increase my work load temporarily. So, overall I'm pretty happy with this plan.

Visit to Jupiter and more

Last weekend, Britton and I went to Jupiter to visit my parents and to go to Artfest by the Sea. The last time I was in Jupiter on the weekend of this event, I was getting married and had no time for the art fair. ;-) We had a nice visit and the weather was beautiful.

Then we returned to Tampa, and Britton began the first of five weeks of night shifts, 16 hour shifts starting at 4pm Sunday-Thursday. Needless to say, I only get to see him on the weekends then and the house is a little lonely. Thank goodness for Samantha and her attention-needy personality or I'd really feel down.

This weekend Britton and I had two wonderful days of homemade dinners and breakfasts on our newly screened-in porch. Our days were filled with little errands and projects. As a result, we have all new pulls and knobs on our kitchen cabinets, Samantha got a bath, and...we have a stroller and a car seat! Yikes! We went by a local maternity/baby store and wound up finding a special that we couldn't pass up. Driving home with a car seat in the backseat and a stroller in the trunk was definitely weird...in a cool way. We had not bought anything for the baby yet, so this was a big step. We are planning on getting a lot of our big things (car seat, stroller, crib, highchair, etc) early so my nephew, Connor, can use them when he comes from Taiwan to visit in June (which I am more than a little excited about!). So we are not completely crazy buying things at 19 weeks. ;-)

On the work front, my job was supposed to change in 2 weeks when the woman that I'm replacing comes back from maternity leave. She just called my current boss on Friday to say that she is not coming back! Unfortunately I have already been assigned to an off-site outpatient clinic at TGH to cover for someone else for 2 months. Will I be able to stay in my current position which I love or will the other off-site clinic insist that they claimed me first? I suppose a lot will unfold this week. Unfortunately, my current PRN (contract type) status dictates that I'm the chess piece, not the player, so we'll see. If they post a full time position for the one that I'm currently filling, I will apply for it.

Now, Britton has gone to work and I'm left home alone again. Waiting for the weekend...
