On Saturday, we woke up, grabbed some hot bread from the bakery down the street (this reminds us of the Krispy Kreme ¨hot donuts¨sign), and took

the 60 minute bus ride to the ¨Middle of the World.¨
Here we took the tour and Britton did the obligatory blow gun trial. He hit the target but it bounced off, I guess I will be the hunter and he

will be the gatherer, ha! (I will have to rotate this picture on a different computer). He and I were both able to balance the

egg on the nail, a feat that they say is only possible on the equator... I think we have a project in the garage when we get back, Dad.

This house was built by a native tribe in the 1800s and is literally made of blood, sweat and tears along will some dirt and dried plants.

And this guy is making the traditional wall hangings that the indigenous have been making for hundreds of years, he tells me he has over 100 patterns in his head!

Then we called the maid, Marta, who works at our house in Quito because she lives near here and invited us to come see her. In a few minutes she arrived in a c

ar with her husband and son and we were on our way to her house in el campo (the country). It was a little unique to see the pigs, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs in

her yard, all for food. She told us that it was her son´s

9th birthday and she was going to make a big lunch but first they needed to go sell chickens that they had bought live that morning, then ¨processed¨and were going to sell. She wanted us to wait at her house for her but I asked her if we could go, ¿porque no? (why not?). I thought we would be going to a market,

it felt like we were in a different world when we actually went door to door selling chickens out of the back of her trunk. Wow! And I don´t like to touch the faucet after touching chicken, this is a whole other concept of sanitary.
We walked with one of Marta´s daughters to a market where we stocked up on cookies for the family.
She made us a nice late lunch with her two daughters and one of her nephews came over. It was a regular day in the country with the fam.
When we left her house, we went to the city center where there was a nine piece band playing music while people danced the evening away. Then we headed back to Quito.
