On Thursday

morning, we went on a guided rainforest hike. Our guide stopped to explain just about every plant, animal, and insect we encountered. We saw spider monkeys, lots of birds and two beautiful red macaws. Unfortunately none were close enough to get a really good picture. We saw some impressive termite mounds and learned that termites can be quite tasty and have a nutty flavor (unfortunately we were still full from breakfast so we had to pass). We saw some really impressive ants that built mounds the size of a Suburban, it reminded us of Indian Jones (they really might drag you in whole!)

Then we went on a jungle river cruise with four other people and two guides. The river was loaded with crocodiles, yikes! There were also crabs, iguanas, egrets and other birds.

After lunch and tropical

sm

oothies (made from guanabana, possibly the most fun Spanish word to say), we went for a walk on the beach.
We went back to the rainforest for a self-guided tour but we wound up jogging through it to avoid the swarms of insects. They weren't biting us, they just weren't respecting our personal space and it was especially hard for Britton because he is so sweet (literally, I guess). That evening we went to another beach for a stroll and then finally had dinner and collapsed into bed! What a fun and exhausting day!
Lauren- I love Guanabana...both the taste and saying it! I cannot help but sing it..guanabana..bop be be be bop...think muppets!
