That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Why "Nathan Britton"?
"Nathan" was my first choice but Britton wasn't crazy about it. Scanning through baby names on-line, we came across the name "Chance" and we both paused. This was an interesting name, finally one we both liked! So Nathan was to be named "Chance" until that name just wouldn't do... for reasons that maybe history does not need to remember. So we returned to the drawing boards and ultimately went back to "Nathan."
Choosing the name "Britton" was much easier. I knew we would name our baby "Britton" the minute I saw a candlestick on the ultrasound image. "Britton" was the maiden name of my husband's paternal grandmother. More importantly, "Britton" is the name that I call the man who is my partner in this crazy thing called "life." Simply put, Britton is honestly the finest man I've ever met (and I actually got to marry him!, how lucky am I?!). Britton is smart, sweet, extremely hardworking, funny, kind, honest and sensitive. He is strong and gentle and appreciative! He values himself and his work but puts his family above all. Britton is truly a good man. He has overcome personal and professional struggles, turning road blocks into speed bumps. I've watched him transition with grace from student to resident physician, from friend to boyfriend to husband and into the role of father. Each day he amazes me more. Like most parents, I hope our child exceeds our successes in every way; but if Nathan is half the man that Britton is, I'll be immensely proud. I wanted to name our son after this great man by my side. When I told Britton that our baby boy should be named after him, he didn't protest...that was easy!
Now that Nathan Britton is in our lives, I love his name because it is the name that I call the sweet little boy who I adore more than I ever thought possible! What a great name for a great guy!
